He Taura
He Taura is The Moko Foundation programme which aims to empower and up-skill rangatahi across Te Hiku.
About the Programme
Firstly, our focus rōpū of 15 rangatahi have had monthly hui where we have come together on a mix of kaupapa. All of these hui aim to build leadership capacity within our rangatahi, grow their self-confidence and communication skills, and provide them with a space to share their unique opinions on all things Health & Science-related.
Alongside our focus group, He Taura also holds six-week hauora challenges. We have completed two challenges thus far. Our first with a tane focus rōpū, and our second with a wāhine focus rōpū. Rangatahi reached through these programmes have built on their fitness foundations by learning new forms of exercise, and new ways to support their emotional and mental well-being.
Our social media presence has flourished this year. We have had multiple leaders in their chosen fields from across Te Hiku do ‘Day in the Life’ takeovers on our Instagram. It has been amazing to connect with rangatahi through this space and have a social media platform that looks to inspire and promote health and well-being.
Looking forward to the next six months, our He Taura focus group will be hosting a rangatahi wānanga in October for like-minded rangatahi across Te Hiku, as well as another hauora challenge called Toa Tangaroa. This challenge will aim to build rangatahi knowledge of tides, maramataka, kai gathering, and safety around the moana.
