In June 2017, the Moko Foundation launched it's innovative approach to connecting rangatahi in the Far North with the wider world through digital technology. The Foundation launched its Mobile Innovation Hub in five key communities from Te Hapua to Mangamuka, delivering programmes of learning to meet key outcomes around technology, literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing. A van fully kitted out with mobile wifi, devices and desk space has been on the road from Monday to Friday this past term, providing after school workshops in filmmaking, drone flying and coding. The programme is currently being co-designed with rangatahi in the various communities, adapting to suit the needs and interests of the communities in each area. Since the programme launched in June this year, the Moko Mobile Innovation Hub has engaged with over 300 whanau, tamariki and rangatahi through its' events, wananga and camps. We currently have over 130 tamariki and rangatahi engaging in the Moko Innovation Hub weekly workshops and programmes.
